The Gatherers
Year One
Episode 1 - The Vanishings***
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
-John 14:1-3
“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
-I Corinthians 15:50-57
“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
-I Thessalonians 4:13-18

“I was told this day would come, and I believed it? I just wasn’t ready.”
- Albert Barrington
***
Okay. What we have here is how I start out every episode. I put up a couple of verses which relate to something in the story. I also have one quote from a character. This is to get readers to anticipate the story. Are you anticipating the story?Albert Barrington was told that this day would come? What day is he talking about? Why wasn’t he ready for it? These questions get answered in the episode.
My good buddy, Al, says this….”Thats right. He was told by his wife Kate that the Rapture would occur. He must have thought he would have time to put his affairs in order and join them in the Rapture but even though he believed it was going to happen, he simply didn’t stop and realize that his procrastination would get him left out of the big removal of the saved. And then when it happened, he realized the grave error he had made. He new that he was too wrapped up in his work to simply give his heart fully to Jesus. So its not like he didn’t know what was going to happen. He knew…..He just left it on the back burner like we all do with those outdoor projects that we start but never finish.”
Now we can get into some serious discussions here. For example…Are there many people in the world today who believe but, as Al mentioned above, put Him on the back burner so to speak? Yeah, sure I believe. But belief should lead to repentence, only because we are human, it often doesn’t. Why? Because we are too busy to take the time to really believe with our whole hearts. Many people believe with their heads, not their hearts. When they believe with their heads, they only consider Jesus, God, and the Bible. They also consider church, and will I go because, you know…the game is on this weekend and I really want to see it. I’m not saying it is paramount to go to church, but church is a great place to go to get grounded.
Those who believe with the heart take into deep consideration of what Jesus had to go through to pay a price for your sin and mine. We want to serve Him because we believe in Him and we know what He did. We don’t understand it. We cannot fully comprehend the great depths of His love, but we believe with our whole heart and want to make sure that others know of what He did for us and for them.

This is the Prologue of Webisode 1 - The Vanishings. Or at any rate, just the review. You can either read the script-like version of The Vanishings here in the Forums, or go directly to our site. At any rate, on with the review. We have two characters in this scene.
Albert Barrington
Michael Lenox
Now just in the first two paragraphs alone you can tell that I am not a professional writer. This scene was written out in October of 2006. I found my first original copy of this work and had dated it as October 2006. I started to put them up online on Augast 1st of 2007.
Anyway, we have Albert Barrington starting us out in the first scene of the first episode of The Gatherers For Christ. Incidentally, the characters of this series do not start calling themselves Gatherers until the end of webisode 2. So our good buddy Al wakes up on a hill side as the rain is falling on him and he has this bad feeling in the pit of his stomach that something horrible has happened.
We don’t yet know much about Al. We only know his name and that he was unconscious. It helps me to put faces to names so with Albert Barrington, think Russell Crowe.
As we continue on, we do discover something about Al. He has a partner named Michael Lenox that he is suddenly concerned about. We also learn that Al is “by the book”, unlike Lenox. Now Al makes it to the car he was thrown from sometime before he wakes up on the hill. He finds Lenox there and Lenox is kind of grumpy. When you read Michael Lenox, think Hugh Jackman.
So these two guys are partners. Now we see that they carry weapons and they did have a prisoner with them, but the prisoner is gone. In fact, he is so gone, only his clothes remain in the back seat of the car, but Al is the only one who sees that. We also discover that Al’s gun is missing. Then we have Lenox, who is angry and favoring a shoulder that is dislocated, go up to the top of the hill where he just stops. Al goes up the hill, too, and that’s when we see more disaster. A plane had crashed on the highway.
If this were a tv show, the opening credits and soundbite would play.
Here is what Al says, “It sounds like a very disorienting, confusing start of a story. I don’t mean the writing.  I mean the situation for Michael and Albert. Albert has an idea of what happen but Michael does not. I’m no expert on the rapture but I can only imagine what kind of chaos is occuring right now. Albert struggling and slipping on the wet ground. Wails and screams, fire and smoke billowing.  Sirens in the distance.  All these impailing the ears of Albert. I can see his fingers digging into the ground as he trys to right himself. Filthy and concerned for his friend.  Looking frantically for the signs of the car he once sat in. Now Michael. Shaking his head to clear away the fog caused by the accident. Punching the steering wheel in disgust. And also noticing his prisoner missing. All Michael can think about right now is who he’s going to shoot first. Of course this is only a small segment of a much larger story. The chaos is too big to describe in meer words.”
There we go. Here we are. And again, Al, you are somewhat correct. As I can speak for Lenox, let me say this….I would say that Lenox is not at the moment thinking anything about the rapture. He is thinking in terms of just what is happening around him. He sees, as you have said, evidence that the prisoner is gone…(although he does not notice the clothes…he is thinking the blankety blank dude escaped!). He is thinking about the tree that is in the hood of his car. He is thinking about his wounded shoulder…(Left? Right? I don’t remember. Do you?) He is thinking about how annoying all of this is to him and, yes, he wants to shoot at something…or someone!
Later in the story, he will recall all of those Bible stories he must have heard a time or two but never took seriously. Lenox is very private, even around his best friend. If he has something on his mind, he isn’t just going to come out with it. Al usually has to do a little prying if he knows Lenox is keeping something to himself. You know what I mean? Anyway, let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Soon, I will start reviewing the first part of the first chapter. All I need to remember is this…
Albert Barrington
and
Michael Lenox are the first two characters introduced.
As far as I know, that is all the reviewing to be done with the Prologue. I have one other thought to contribute. It is what a person goes through in life that will eventually lead him to Christ, or to deny Christ. For the character Lenox, we will see that everything that happens around him, he takes it all in and it is there, constantly on his mind. As the series progresses, he will see more truths uncovered before him and eventually realize his need for Christ.Lenox is only a character, but I’m sure there are many people today who are like him. Whether it is the pressures on the job, or just a stubborn refusal to even forgive yourself of something you’ve done, people hang onto their own failures, refusing to give them over to God. You will find release from it all if you would just give it over to Him.
Now I will try to continue with reviewing Chapter One. As time permits. Oh, how I wish I could do this 24/7, but that isn’t to be at this time. Stay tuned. And thanks for visiting.
